The defeat of Goliath

This image was made upon the request of my father, Manuel Sr. After I was well into it I realized I didn't know where exactly this battle took place, only to find out that the Valley of Ellah does not feature any cliffs... and normally I'd just let it be about the obvious message of the symbolic hand of God in this event. But if I know my father he's always about historical (biblical) accuracy and the truth is, there are no cliffs in any of the photos I scooped up of this region.

Naturally then I made a second version. You can see the alternative version on http://www.lolosart.com/.

Bat Girl

This was an old sketch I was drawing up a couple of years ago. I thought it had some potential... so I finished it up. The original sketch was of Supergirl, but it never made sense to me why Supergirl seemed to be jumping off, as if falling... so I gave her a hero change operation.

Fox Gangstas

Inspired by Justine aka "Solchaser" (http://solchaser.deviantart.com/) aka "Kesame" (http://kesame.deviantart.com/) and her characters. Kesame is one awesome artist and her knowledge of the anatomy of animals is refreshing, like a tall glass of ice cold water on a hot summer day.
Check her stuff out. Enjoy!

Here they are again. The lovable fluffy bird and the grumpy mean cat. You can see the full piece on http://www.lolosart.com/

This is an altered version of the Tree Woman. In the full painting she is looking away and you can't see her face.

Bad guy sketches

So I have this assignment: Design an evil arch nemesis character for a fantasy world. It probably woud have helped to know the hero, but...whatevaz. Here are a few of the sketches I came up with. It was definitely fun... but maybe I can get a little evilerrr.

Sketches on DS Colors!

I learned about Colors! for the Nintendo DS from my professor Kam Mak. I would like to thank him and Jens Anderson, the creator of this homebrew app, for this treasure. Now I get to paint anywhere and everywhere as long as I have my trusty DS with me. Super!

This is part of a bigger piece I made for a client. Finding some of these colors was a challenge for me, but I think I found my way.

Pink Dragon

Here is that guy again with his buddies, this time going at it versus a dragon... lol. I was inspired to go with a pink palette here after taking some photographs of my wife and kid in our bedroom. With the VERY red curtains she picked out, a peaceful pink light cascades in whenever they aren't drawn.

Water colors...
I have to say, I'm half satisfied.

a walk with my pets

I started with a line drawing that I was feeling real good about and ended up not really knowing where to go next with color and lighting. I have been feeling very incomplete as of late about my overall composition. Strangely, I unintentionally used almost the same palette in this painting (digital, by the way) as in the other one, of the guy and his dog... funny :/

My first post

Hi... I thought I'd start one of these blogs for the sake of communicating my process and progress to whomever would care to read.

Here is a piece I started a couple of weeks ago that is still a work in progress. I had been doing a lot of digital painting lately and I just felt the need to actually paint. I missed that tactile experience so I grabbed them oils and I didn't even care to gesso the board. I just wanted to go at it. I'm actually happy with where it's going, though I realize that the rocks need some nice lighting to give them volume.

So here is my first post, now let's see how I can follow up next time. Oh yeah, and don't worry, next time I'll prime. :)
